The license agreement between Monsanto and licensees of crops with Roundup Ready® technology requires that licensees observe all mitigation instructions on this Pre-Serve website. The purpose of Pre-Serve is to protect threatened and endangered plant species and their federally-designated critical habitat from potential impacts resulting from the agricultural use of herbicides that contain glyphosate.

In addition to the instructions provided here, mitigations from local, state, or federal protection programs and/or landowner agreements may apply, and must be followed, where applicable. For applications of glyphosate products in California, mitigations specified in the California PRESCRIBE system must also be followed.

When answering the following questions, please consider all applications of glyphosate products you will make this year. If you answer "yes" to any of the following three questions, then no mitigation is specified by Pre-Serve:

  1. Will you apply a glyphosate product only in the following states? In these states, mitigations from local, state, or federal protection programs and/or landowner agreements may apply, and must be followed, where applicable. Use link where provided.
    • Alaska
    • Arizona
    • Delaware
    • Iowa
    • North Dakota
    • Oklahoma
    • Pennsylvania
    • South Dakota
    If yes, you are not impacted by Pre-Serve.
  2. Will you apply a glyphosate product by ground, only at rates of less than 3.5 pounds † glyphosate acid equivalent (a.e.) per acre per application?
    (this is equivalent to 3.1 quarts (100 fl. oz.) per acre of Roundup PowerMAX ® or Roundup WeatherMAX ® Herbicide)
    If yes, you are not impacted by Pre-Serve.
  3. Will you apply a glyphosate product by air, only at rates of less than 0.7 pounds † glyphosate acid equivalent (a.e.) per acre per application?
    (this is equivalent to 20 fl. oz. per acre of Roundup PowerMAX or Roundup WeatherMAX Herbicide) 
    If yes, you are not impacted by Pre-Serve.
Otherwise, proceed to Step 1:
